The Cold Spring Orchard is unusual. It's a research facility for scientists at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a place to buy delicious fruit, and a great spot to enjoy a spectacular mountain view. Located at the site of the spring that gave Belchertown its original name -- Cold Spring -- the orchard is on property that was once a dairy farm. Since the 1960s it has been a place to test new varieties of fruit and better, environmentally friendly ways of growing them.
